Starting seeds inside can seem like a daunting task. But come every February I can’t wait to get my hands in some dirt. Every flower seed has a different way of growing and takes differing time to mature.

The main things you need to start seeds indoors are: lights, heat mats, and seed starting soil and trays. A humidity dome works great for seed germination and I take it off after they have sprouted as well as turn off the heat mats.
Getting your soil moist before you plant your seed is a great idea. You typically will not have to water until seeds have sprouted and your humidity dome is removed. After this happens I bottom water the trays to prevent mold and fungus growing on the top layer of soil.
Keep the lights nice and close and move them higher as the plants grow!

When it comes time to transplant them out make sure to have them spend some time outside hardening off before planted.

Here is the Johnny’s seed calculator I think is pretty neat!

Planting them out is exciting and tedious but it’s always so nice to get them out of my basement 🤣

Happy planting!
